beautiful girl

So when I was on my yahoo today, a story came up for "30 Beautiful Hollywood actresses" and I pretty much died in excitement! I have an obsession with Marilyn Monroe. So much, that for our America themed sorority date function, me date and i dressed and Marilyn and JFK!

The sexy but timeless looks of these ladies have inspired my blog today! I love how some of the classic icons always look so put together and so classy! I love this nautical inspired look worn by Ava Gardner.

ALL of these pieces are from forever 21. I LOVE the navy high wasted, bandage skirt and with that blouse tucked in, it will look super chic. I felt that a red belt was too expected and I think the navy and bronze go well together, that way you have a nautical inspired look without actually being nautical.

Who are some of your favorite women of fashion, retro or modern?

DIY Studded Shoes

Before i start my post, i just need to throw out that I am madly in love with the John Mayer cover of "Free Fallin". I'm a huge Tom Petty fan (he's a local!) and John's sweet voice just melts me!

On a shoe hunt, i was looking through photos from fashion shows and found these awesome Balmain strappy heels. They have studs and rhinestones all over (i LOVE bling) but i couldn't figure out where to find them so I decided to make a pair of my own.

I also bought some rhinestones to decorate mine with! I would also recommend buying the shoes FIRST then the studs/ bling just to see what matches the shoe style.

To place to studs, you can either hammer them through the fabric (be careful!) and then use wires to bend the edges in OR you can buy a stud setting too for a relatively cheap price. If you find hammering to be too difficult, you can also glue. If you plan on gluing, make sure to wipe down the shoe first.

Next, you can add rhinestones for a little bling. I really like how the Balmain shoes have rhinestones as the band on the ankle strap! Now just let the glue dry and you have your very own, custom studded shoes!

I wish my camera cord was working so I could upload my creation! the key to creating awesome shoes is to pay attention to the anatomy of the shoes and to not overdo one the studs. I wanted to find platformed heels so i could add bling to the platform but no luck!

Time to get creative and don't forget, you don't have to spend a lot to look hot!

sign on the dotted line

Sorry about the minimal updating this week! I'v had tests in Macro and Calc and it's homecoming week here at UF so we have events every night!

Last night my sorority had a social the gentlemen of two fraternities and the theme was "Party like a Rockstar". In the process of getting ready I was excited to use my black, faux leather bag which has just a few studs at the base of the handles and little silver chain details around.

This bag is great for everything! from days when I want to wear just jeans and a tee to sundresses (it's still summer in Florida, guys) and even when I party like a rockstar. I'm a purse whore, but I think one of the essential items every girl needs is a good, versatile bag.

With cool details or even bright colors, this investment into a versatile piece will make it your signature bag!

What are some other signature pieces of this season that you think is worth investing in?

good girls go bad-- the leather jacket

So when I was getting my daily dose of People Mag, I pretty much died with happiness to see Jessica Simpson in one of my favorite articles of clothing--a leather jacket. I bought a black faux leather bomber jacket on Black Friday of 2008 for $19 and I can say it has been one of my best purchases ever.

Leather jackets are a great way to add a hard edge to a glamorous look this fall AND you don't have to pay a lot to find the jacket that's just right for you.

leather jackets come is so many styles, from bombers to vests to trenches so it's important to try on a few styles and see what looks best on you. Try shopping in a favorite pair of jeans and a fitted tee and if your daring enough, bring a floral sundress you'd like to mix into your winter/fall wardrobe. A versatile leather jacket is something you'll love forever!

Enjoy! And remember, you don't have to spend a lot to always look hot ;)

DIY Headbands

As a sorority girl, it’s safe to say all of my sisters have a passion for Lily Pulitzer and/or Vera Bradley but with sundress prices averaging in the $200 and $300 (hence my hunt on ebay for NWT styles) and tote bags over $40, it’s a bit unrealistic and pricey to have a variety of these labels.

A great way to add the color flavor of these looks is headbands. You can buy basic, wide plastic headbands at any Wal-Mart, Target, or craft store.

Next you need to buy the fabric. For Vera fabric I suggested just buying the napkin in the pattern you like (I believe it is $6 at most retailers or you can find it on ebay). For Lilly, you should either search ebay for fabrics or another great place online is http://thelillypadshop.com/home where you can get fabric in different shapes and sizes.

Usually you end up with more fabric than needed but these would make great gifts! To spice up the headband, you could bedazzle it (oh how I love bling), add a bow, or anything else to add personal style!

You could also do this with other fabrics you have lying around or fabrics you find in the scraps bin at your local craft store.

the new all american

I think Jen Aniston is just too cute. In my mind, she is a great example of the modern all american girl. She is today's celeb inspiration for a look for less.

I'd write more but I have a HUGE macro test to study for, so for now enjoy and remember, you don't have to spend a lot to always look hot!

the key to any outfit...

Style has not changed too much over the last year (luckily) but wearing the exact same ensemble I wore in fall 08 just doesn’t appeal to me. A great way to make last year’s clothes, or even your basics, fashion forward for this fall is to add accessories. These are a few of my favorite places to find accessories (and for great prices!).

My personal favorite thing piece has to either be the flowered headband or the yellow pumps, both from WetSeal! But rings, necklaces, and decorative bobby pins all will add that little flair to make you look great this season.

all girls play dress up!

This year, my Halloween will be spent at The Landing in Jacksonville with some of my sorority sisters and other Gator and Dawg fans alike. It will be Halloween night and the Gators will have just capture another victory against UGA (yes, I’m that confident) so we’ll want to celebrate in costume style.
The thing that always worries me with Halloween is that I don’t want to be the only crazy person all dressed up. The perfect costume is easy and completely obvious so that there’s no confusion as to whether you’re dressed up or if you really do look like that. I decided to share a few simple, easy to do ideas for Halloween that I’ve picked up on from friends or costume ideas from date functions.

Toga: yes, a toga. The modern version of the classic getup involves brightly colored, shiny fabric which you can wrap around your body to highlight your assets and hide everything else. Get creative with shiny fabric, gold rope, bangles and cuff jewelry, headpieces, etc. Bright gold eye shadow as part of your makeup would also highlight the sexy Greek goddess in you.

Boxer: This is the comfiest of all outfits if you ask me. Pair a sports bra with either hot shorts or a pair of short athletic shorts. If you don’t have gloves, just tape up your wrists and hands (think Rocky) and if you want and extra touch, hit up your local Wal-Mart for a mouth guard and/or create a black eye using smoky eye colors and some plum colors.

Biker babe: Almost every girl still has those jorts or the jean skirt that was already ripped to shreds at the time of purchase and now you have an excuse to wear it again. Pair this with a black cami or vintage rock tee (which you could alter to your liking). All types of boots and heels work for this look, especially black. Don’t forget the shades and the bandana wrapped around the teased out hair. Red lipstick and a B.A. tat (draw it in eyeliner, then hairspray over it to stay) will complete this look.

What have been some of your best halloween costumes?

"get up and shake the glitter off your clothes now"

Between jumping around to “Waking up in Vegas” at a Vegas themed crush party last night and seeing her so well put together in People Magazine this week, I decided Katy Perry would be my inspiration for a One Stop Shop.

“Time” and “budget” are definitely inversely proportional but in just a quick trip to your local Forever 21 (or even www.Forever21.com) and a little help from this retro vixen, you can look hot for a great price. All together, this entire outfit is just under $45 and chances are you already have a cool piece like black skinnys or an awesomely oversized ring.

All you need to finish off this look is to pin back your tousled, soft locks and create a smokey eye with natural to nude lips! Great look at a great price!

comfort is always in

When I was young enough to legitimently shop and pick out clothes for myself, my mama taught me a very important lesson—before you fall in love, check the price tag. This philosophy has helped me with everything from men, to picking the right college and of course with fashion. I love looking at celeb clothes and I wish I could pull off the $500 tops that look like I don’t care. But in reality, especially with the current economic situation, I’d rather save my $500 the pay for a shirt that I could totally fingerpaint myself.

I’ve learned that you can get that celeb look without paying celeb prices. I’m not a huge Miley fan, but the girl has great taste in clothes. What I love about her fashion is that she goes for simple, cute, and comfy—an outfit without reason to complain. So, she is today’s inspiration! I’ve taken an outfit she was recently spotted in and found the pieces at common stores like Walmart and Forever 21.

Enjoy this awesomely comfy look from Miley and have a great weekend!
